Course Overview

 

Expanding Leadership Capacity® helps participants apply the DialogueWORKS® model of communication to any difficult conversation. Participants learn to manage the dynamics of an interaction more effectively while addressing the leadership challenges of giving feedback, managing expectations, recognizing and expressing value for others, and defusing defensiveness.

Giving and Requesting Feedback are crucial to any leader who desires to effectively coach employees toward optimal professional achievement and who desires to enhance his or her ability as a leader. Providing feedback enhances performance, strengthens trust, and builds increased capacity in people.

Managing Expectations allows a leader to clearly define parameters and create mutual understanding around goals, rules, tools, measures, and consequences which impact success. Managing expectations eliminates surprises and ensures results.

Valuing Others deals with the skill of acknowledging the contributions and successes of your people. These skills improve professional relationships while reinforcing the value of the individual.

Defusing Defensiveness deals with recognizing when an individual’s values have been violated or ego has been bruised. These situations often show up through negative or emotional communication. Being able to defuse the emotion helps conversation to get back on track.

Learning Process

The learning process involves lecture, personal application of theory to specific skills, self-assessment, role-play, and video examples. Participants are expected to complete a pre-work assignment which serves as a focus for their learning during the course of the workshop. Participants also create a personal action plan to focus future personal development.
