This survey is intended to help you identify how you might increase your emotional intelligence, or EQ.

There are four topical categories for improving your EQ: Personal Awareness, Personal Management, Interpersonal Awareness, and Interpersonal Management.

Respond to each statement by selecting a response: Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Usually, Almost Always, or Always. Be sure to select an answer for every statement. After you take the survey and submit your responses, you will receive a score sheet with your answers recorded in a graphic that represents these four categories.

 

Personal Awareness

Personal Management

Question 12. Control my negative emotions in difficult situations
Question 13. Trust other people, even if they have messed up in the past
Question 14. Handle stress well in any situation
Question 15. Recognize immediately when I have offended someone
Question 16. Take a good hard look at my values when I react emotionally

Interpersonal Awareness

Question 18. Look for the positive in what other people say and do
Question 19. Know when to prioritize the relationship and when to focus on facts or process
Question 20. Recognize body language that signals disagreement
Question 21. Can identify words that signal negative emotions are rising

Question 23. Recognize the emotions another person is feeling
Question 24. Know when the tone in a meeting starts to turn negative

Interpersonal Management

Question 27. Can defuse defensiveness or strong emotion when it comes up in a conversation

Question 31. Confront someone respectfully in a difficult situation
Question 32. Understand the other person’s viewpoint before I share my own
